Randall is from Alabama and graduated with a degree in forestry from Auburn University in 1973. After working in the forest industry for 10 years, Randall felt called to the ministry. He attended Bob Jones University and graduated in 1989. Bonnie is from Arizona and graduated from Bob Jones University with a B.S. in nursing in 1973. She served 4 years as a missionary nurse in Suriname, South America. Randall and Bonnie were married in 1980. They began work in the Extreme North of Cameroon in 1995, living and working 5 years in the market town of Koussen, moving later to their present location of Makary, a large village of about 3,000. The region is 99% Muslim. A few of the small communities are made up of Protestants who have moved here for work purposes. Their time in the Extreme North has been a pioneering work among small Arabic villages which dot the landscape for many miles all around. On Sundays, they preach and teach in a small church located about an hour from their home. About 15 – 20 persons attend each Sunday. These people are from a Protestant background. Bonnie teaches the ladies and children Sunday school classes. On Sunday afternoons Randall helps his co-worker, Zane Bachman, teach a men’s bible course that was started in 2006. Bonnie has 2 ladies sewing classes where she gives Bible instruction. Each class is well attended and average about 8 – 10 Muslim ladies from their home village of Makary. Joe and Grace, their teenagers, help with music in church services. The Lord has blessed them with seven children. They have a new endeavor of reaching the people who live on the islands of Lake Chad with Dr. John Dreisbach who has had a burden for these people for many years. Pray that Dr. Dreisbach will have the daily necessary strength, and that the gospel will go forth in the power of the Holy Spirit, that all will be to the praise of His glory and grace. - Canada

Joseph was born in Cairo, Egypt, into a Muslim home. He was saved while still in Egypt as the result of the ministry of an American evangelist. He left Egypt in 1972 as a result of persecution, and went to America in 1973. Louann was invited to church by friends. She was saved at the age of 12. She and Joseph were married in 1982. They felt called by God to reach Muslims with the gospel and arrived in England in 1989 where there is an increasing number of Muslims. They moved to Birmingham, the second largest city in the United Kingdom in 1995 and began Grace Bible Fellowship Church in 1996. While there have occasionally been Muslims attending the church services, most of the Abrahams’ contact with them has been outside a church setting. Many of their immediate neighbors are Muslims, and so are the local barber, some shopkeepers, and other business people they come in contact with regularly. The church meets on Sundays in a rented hall and on Wednesday nights in the Abraham’s home. The congregation is a mixture of mature Christians, recently saved people and sometimes those who are unsaved. Recently they have had contacts with several Egyptians. Being located in a culturally diverse area, the church is likewise a mixture of cultures. There are West Indians, Filipinos, English and others in the church, all united by a common bond in Jesus Christ.

Brad and Krischa McKenzie have ministered full-time in Germany since 1992. Krischa grew up near Tubingen, Germany in the ministry of her parents, Jurgen and Joan Matthia. Brad’s father was a pastor and encouraged Brad toward missions by reading from missionary biographies and taking an active interest in missionaries. Brad and Krischa met in music theory class at Bob Jones University in 1980. After marrying in 1985 they entered into short-term ministry in Tubingen, Germany for 13 months before joining GFA. Brad is convinced the Lord led him and his family specifically to Magdeburg. In 1986, Brad and Krischa had taken a trip through Germany. They were not allowed to leave the highway until they reached their stated destination, but from the highway Brad could see tall buildings of a city in the distance. As they drove past the city in a van with 9 other people he silently prayed for the mission field he could not then reach and dedicated his life anew to the Lord, never dreaming that one day the Lord might send Krischa and him there to minister. Within 10 years, the Lord placed the McKenzie’s in that very city, Magdeburg, and they are beginning a church plant there. Work in the region is slow, the German people have been conditioned over years against the existence of God. Pray the Lord will open hardened heart. Brad has for years supported Kevin and Carol Matthia in the camp ministry, preaching frequently and ministering in the camp music. A camp songbook Brad has been working on is due for release. The McKenzies have 10 children: Dalene, Danae, Derek, Donia, Doreen, Dustin, Danke, Donovan, Devon, and Danielle, the first 2 of which are studying at Bob Jones University. Krischa maintains a blog, http://bkmckenzie.blogspot.com, which gives insight into the family aspect of their life in Germany.

Fernando and Christy were born and raised in Mexico. Fernando was educated at Mount Horeb Bible Institute, Spanish being his first language, and then he learned English in Dublin. At the time of his accepting Christ, he wanted his own people to know the Savior. He works among the Tenek people with a small body of believers in Santa Martha, Mexico. They hope to soon turn the work over to a pastor. The Tenek people are just one group of 60 indigenous groups. There are about 200,00 Tenek, and no good translation of the New Testament or Old Testament. He is currently working on a translation for use among the people. They are very open to them, and in time may accept Christ. Their greatest competition are the Catholics and Pentecostals.

Mike and Faith Goldfuss have been in Mexico City, Mexico since September of 1995. Mike and Faith grew up together in Mentor, Ohio, going to the same church and Christian school. They became high school sweethearts and were married in May 1992 after both finished their undergraduate and most of their postgraduate studies at Bob Jones University.
They have seven children, Michael John II, Cristiana Faith, Carissa Grace, Crystalyn Joy, Matthew Josiah, Cherith Hope, and Caralyn Joy. The Lord took Crystalyn Joy to Himself in 2001 after just three months of life. The Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away, blessed be the name of the Lord (Job l:2b) The Goldfusses have a website at http://www.obf.net/~obf.goldfuss/. Faith homeschools, a major responsibility for her on the field. If anybody out there would love the chance to serve the Lord in Mexico helping with teaching piano in the church, etc., please feel free to contact them. The first year that Mike and Faith spent in Mexico City, they helped Tom and Jean Zartman, another GFA couple who were located about 25 minutes away. During that year, they spent time getting the Gospel out in their neighborhood. After about a year, four or five people regularly went with them to the Zartmans’ church, and they decided it was time to start a local assembly in their own living room. They have seen over 1000 different people attend services throughout the years. Many leave, but several have stayed, and little by little, the Lord is building the church. About 60 people regularly attend on Sunday. There are a lot of professing Christians in Mexico City but seemingly very few true converts to Christ. Although the work has been slow in many ways, the Lord is calling out a people for Himself.
Throughout the years, the difficulty has been in finding faithful men. There are several in the church now. One man has been very faithful, and he has been studying with Mike each week and preaching on Wednesday nights with much marked improvement. Mike and Faith are praying that the Lord will allow the man,or another like him, to take over the church so that they can go to another part of the city and plant another church.

Tom and Jean Zartman have been on the mission field since 1965, and with GFA since 1986. Tom was born in Hanover, Pa., the Lord saved him out of an unsaved family. He enrolled in Lancaster School of the Bible, and in Missions class the Lord called him to missions. Tom started out as a missionary in Spain for 2 years, learning the language and discipling various people. He then went to Uruguay for 5 years, working in the distribution of literature, Bible teaching, and evangelistic work. Jean began her missionary service in Iceland and was there until the end of 1972. Tom and Jean were married in Pennsylvania and went together to Uruguay in January 1973. They ministered in Rocha for 5 years in a work that continues fruitfully. Two sons, Joel David and Benjamin, were born to them in Rocha. After a year of furlough, during which Juliana was born, they went to Colombia, South America, and lived and worked in Bucaramange and Sogamoso. Ruben was born in Sogamoso. Then followed furloughing for a year in Mentor, Ohio, joining GFA, and going to Mexico City. They worked in Mexico City for 11 years in sowing the seed and doing church work. Mexicans value family above all else. From there they moved to Saltillo in the north for 5 years, leaving a small house church. There they also had a large children’s ministry. They have now been in Monterrey since 2004 sowing the Seed and awaiting the Lord’s timing for the harvest. Tom goes door to door, the people are mainly Roman Catholic and have been for years. They follow tradition. Otherwise, all the sects are present, with the Pentecostals leading in number. The biggest hindrance to the work is indifference, no sense of sin and need; the biggest stumbling block is apathy, unwilling to break with tradition, materialism, and social pressure. Their greatest need is PRAYER, PRAYER, and PRAYER. Their advice to someone who wants to become a missionary would be to "be 'in the way' by doing His will now, in study, preparation, evangelistic opportunities, and Christian service. Pray for His guidance."

A firefighter/paramedic becomes a missionary? Mark was raised in Cleveland, Ohio in a Catholic home, where he grew from an altar boy in his younger years into a real roughneck, rebellious teen. At age 21, after hearing the testimony of salvation and seeing a real change in the life of a very close friend, Mark realized his lost condition and accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior. In 1982 he met Carol at the church where she and her family regularly attended and in 1984 they were married. After much work, study, and sacrifice, in 1988 Mark’s lifelong dream of becoming a firefighter/paramedic was realized. Never would he have imagined the changes the Lord had in mind for him over the next decade.! In 1996 Mark and Carol went on a short-term mission’s trip to Panama where the Lord planted the seed for missions in Mark’s heart. The Mavar family began attending Grace Church of Mentor in 1997 and 4 years later Mark graduated from Grace Bible Institute and signed with Gospel Fellowship Association as a full time missionary to Panama. In 2002 the Mavar family arrived in Panama and started working with a veteran missionary where they studied and learned the language (Spanish). In 2003 Mark began visitation to decide where they would locate and plant a church. In Chorrera, 2004, they rented a home for church meetings and began services. In Panama, men work 6-7 days per week, the people are mostly Catholic, and in general, apathetic about the things of the Lord. They are mostly poor according to U.S. standards. Panama is a mix of people groups including various indigenous groups, Hispanics, Chinese, and West Indies blacks. Although mostly poor, Panamanians are very materialistic and concerned about appearances. They are friendly enough to Americans, but are resentful and politically opposed to the U.S. government. Mormon’s, Jehovah’s Witnesses, and Pentecostals are very active and cause much religious confusion. Mark and Carol have raised 4 children, the oldest son being married, and all currently students at Bob Jones University. Mark and Carol are greatly dependent on our prayers and they have a need for good Spanish materials for teaching. Currently they are grounding and discipling the people for church organization as they study through Jim Berg's "Changed Into His Image" interactive study guide. What would be their advice to someone who wants to become a missionary? "It is not for the faint of heart. Unless you know for certain God is calling, don’t go. It isn’t easy, nevertheless with the call of the Lord upon you, it is a blessing not to be missed!"

Gary and Edie Jones have been on the field in the Philippines since 1980. Gary was raised in Galesburg, Il. And Edie was born in the Philippines and was raised there until her family moved to California when she was 15. Gary came to know the Lord at 17, through the faithful witness of his grandmother. While a student at Bob Jones University he was called to preach, but refused the Lord’s calling. He was drafted in 1969 and sent to Vietnam. While there he realized he could not outrun God and surrendered his life to full time service. He returned to Bob Jones where he me Edie, they married, and Bethany Baptist Church of Galesburg, Il.sent them to Manila under GFA Missions.
Lighthouse Baptist Church, a bilingual church, in Imus, Cavite, began with just a handful of believers. That ministry grew and in 1990 it was turned over to the national pastor that Gary had trained. In 1990 Lighthouse Bible Believers Church was started in Metro Manila. God has faithfully provided young men to assist, one being Josh, Gary and Edie’s oldest son. During the week there are five Bible studies and a discipleship program. Although it is 83% Roman Catholic, there is such an openness to the gospel in the Philippines. Most of their membership are first generation Christians. From Lighthouse, 3 churches in the provinces have been started and are being pastored by men trained at Bob Jones Memorial Bible Institute which Gary and Steve Lauhoff founded 22 years ago. The biggest hindrance would be the rapidly growing Charismatic groups that attract many who leave Catholicism in search of the truth. The biggest stumbling block is ingrained fear and superstition blocking their minds to the truth.
They have four children, all adults now. Pray their new discipleship program will affect their church tremendously and produce dedicated disciples for the Lord. Their advice to someone who wants to become a missionary: work on knowing the Lord through dedicated study of His Word. Serve Him faithfully in your church. Learn to die to self each day that Christ may be glorified in you and that God will give you a sensitive heart for the lost souls to be a witness for Jesus consistently. - Puerto Rico

Bill and Teresa Pfaunmiller first met in the eight grade. Teresa remembers her Spanish teacher saying this is not just another class, it is something you may use the rest of your life. They attended school together from that point until graduating from college. However, they did not begin dating until their senior year of high school when they learned that each loved the Lord and was committed to serving the Lord in the manner of His choosing. On August 23, 1985, they were married and one week later returned to Bob Jones University to finish their degrees. Then they moved to Mt. Pleasant, PA, to teach in a Christian school. In March 1990, the Lord called them to Puerto Rico during the missions conference at their home church, Mt. Carmel Community Church. Since January 1995, Bill and Teresa have served the Lord in Puerto Rico. The Lord has blessed the family with five children: Steven, Nathan, Bethany, Matthew, and Jonathan. After serving for several years with fellow GFA missionaries Dean and Brenda Hendrix, the Pfaunmillers wer asked to lead Iglesia Bautista Misionera and Ponce Christian Academy. Materialism is the number one god in Puerto Rico. People are curious, they listen, and are polite, they may even agree with you, but that’s all the further it goes. Natives support themselves in construction work and in the employ of the government. They do a lot of door to door evangelism, sometimes asking the question “ What does your church teach that would help you know you’re going to Heaven?” They need good literature in Spanish. They have about 65-70 attending church . Their greatest competition are the Pentecostals, the greatest hindrance Catholicism. Their advice to those considering the mission field is to work with a missionary who has been on the field for at least a year.

Mike and Marie Brunk met in Athens Bible Church in Athens, Ohio in 1976. They graduated from Ohio University – Mike in Zoology and Marie in Math Education. Marie had been to African 3 times with her family, her father was a professor who taught and did research. In fact, it was in Africa that she realized her sinfulness before God and realized herself unfit for Heaven. At 15 she accepted Christ as her Savior. Mike attended a Bible Class at Athens Bible Church and accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior. Athens Bible Church sent them to South Africa in 2001. Their church in South Africa, Kathorus Bible Church 2002 is named for the region where they are located made up of 3 cities. They began with a Bible class of only 10 and grew slowly, but steadily for 4 years. However, after their furlough early in 2006, their church began to grow. Sunday attendance is now up around 40. They strongly emphasize one on one discipleship and verse by verse expository preaching. Their need is to develop leaders, hoping to be indigenous by 2015. The climate there is subtropical, like Miami. They have only 2 seasons, spring and summer. There are 11 official languages, 9 ‘black’ and 2 ‘white’. English is the trade language, so most speak English. It is an animistic society steeped in superstition. The barrier to the gospel is the exclusive position to forsake all others and cling only to Him. Their children are grown, married, and working various jobs. They believe the great need is for missionaries to have a solid grasp not only of theology, but of expository preaching, able to teach verse by verse both adults and children and to breakdown major doctrines to a simplified form. Wives should be able to handle the scriptures, as well, in order to teach the children. Their greatest competition, other then the animism, is the Charismatics.

Dr. Ken and Rhonda Johnson continue the ministry that Ken’s father established, Bob Jones Memorial Institute in Seoul, South Korea. South Korea is slightly bigger than the state of Indiana, in the U.S.A., about 46 Million people. The religions represented are Buddhism, Taoism, Christianity, and the Unification Church. It is difficult for a new missionary to obtain a visa, unless you enter the country to teach English at various English institutes. This gives you the opportunity to be part of the nucleus of Seoul Bible Church. So far over 500 students have graduated from BJMI, and the Johnson’s know of more than 100 churches started by these men. There are 35 post graduates who pastor churches. Seoul Christian School was started in 1998 for grades kindergarten through high school. Each year their concern is teachers, but it seems God wonderfully provides for their staff and school needs.

After graduation the family moved to Chile in 1985, and planned to be there the rest of their lives. Slightly over 20 years later, the Lord brought the Purvises back to the U.S.A. in answer to the tremendous need to reach America’s approximately 43 million Hispanics. The Lord clearly led them to settle in Ashville, Alabama. Melvin and Susan now have a regularly scheduled Sunday evening preaching service in Spanish. The numbers are small, but doors are opening. A local supporting church has opened its facilities to the Puvises’ ministry to the Hispanics, and a number of new contacts have been made with promising results. Don and Pat Garwood have a church plant, Maranatha Bible Church, in Montevido, Uruguay. Don was born and raised in Dayton, Ohio and Pat in Grand Rapids, Michigan but reared in, Mt. Alaska, Indiana, Pa, and Ohio (her father was a pastor). They met through a letter from their home church. Dan was saved at 25, and with the assurance of salvation offered to go anywhere the Lord would lead him. A missionary in Kentucky encouraged him to go to Bible School at ABC, and he had 3 years of Bible School, and language training in Spanish in Uruguay and Rio Grande Language School. Pat was saved at age 6 and knew by 10 years of age the Lord wanted her on the mission field. She went to Bible College and has a BA in elementary ed, and a Masters in Education, learning Spanish in Uruguay with a tutor. Don has started 3 churches in Uruguay, 2 of them are in national hands. They’re praying God will raise up nationals for a third church. The people are of European descent and very indifferent to spiritual things; it is an agraian society, and the government is socialistic. The greatest competition are the Mormons, Jehovah Witnesses, and the Pentecostals. Their greatest need is for additional workers, mainly men, but whole families. Their advice to those interested in mission work in Uruguay: go to a Bible College that is mission-minded, read biographies and autobiographies of famous missionaries, missions and church history, talk with the missionaries you meet, visit different fields and see what the missionary does, get as much experience as possible in a variety of ministry areas while preparing, and ask the Lord to keep you from becoming distracted from serving Him on the mission field. - Wales

In 1997 they moved to Clymer, PA, where Todd began teaching on the secondary level at Calvary Baptist Academy. The Lord then led them to Trinity Baptist in Willston, VT, in 2001, and Todd continued teaching history and Bible on the secondary level. , In February 2004 the Lord called them to missions and they began deputation meetings in October of 2006. In August 2007 they began ministering in Kitwe, Zambia Africa. Their ministry involves evangelism, discipleship with a focus on church planting, and training nationals at Central Africa Baptist College. The greatest hindrance is that the Zambian will accept anything that they think will help them get ahead, they are very poor. Many major religions are there and so are the cults. The health and wealth gospel thrives. Todd and Kathy have four children: Andrew, Isaac, Emily, and Paul, all being home schooled by Kathy. Todd and Kathy’s greatest resource needed for their work is literature!!! Tracts, New Testaments (the main language is English). Check their Web Blog for up to date news.
